Update #19

Today is a great day! Physical therapy came to visit Ryan. They did their normal exercises. During these exercised, Ryan moved his left arm (a first that I know of). He also moved his left leg. So, that is a big improvement.

Ryan is no longer on any breathing apparatus. (They did hook up an oxygen line that sits under his nose, but it is not helping him breathe. It is just there to provide oxygen as he needs it.) He is breathing on his own without any pressure aides. They did a chest x-ray and said that pneumonia is almost gone.

The doctor's said that if he continues to be this stable for the rest of the day and into tomorrow, he will be moved down to "intermediate intensive care." He will probably be in intermediate intensive care for about a week. After that, he can either be transferred to a ward at Walter Reed or directly to the Richmond rehabilitation center. I am personally trying to get him to rehab as soon as possible. I have been told by a few people that the sooner you can get someone to rehab the better.

They are going to put a feeding tube directly into Ryan's stomach (a "G" tube). This is better for him than the feeding tube going through his nose ("NG" tube). At this point it is still necessary for him to be on a feeding tube because we are unsure if he is able to chew or swallow on his own yet.

Every day Ryan is getting better. But, he still has a long way to go. Keep on praying.

Thank you so much for your support! :)
