Update #20

Ryan had a slow but encouraging weekend. The nursing staff put him in a "chair" for two sessions each day. The chair is actually the bed that I sleep on in the ICU in Ryan's room. It folds up to be a chair like you would see in a doctor's office.

The first session went well, but wasn't long. Ryan's feet turned a bit purple after a while. The nurse said that his circulation system needed to get used to the new position. But, the second session was better and longer. Ryan got a good night's sleep on Saturday night. He was probably tired from all the movement.

On Sunday, the same routine was followed. They put Ryan in a chair for two different sessions. He slept through most of the first one. But, I turned the TV on during the second session and Ryan watched it for a good 30 minutes. This was a big step. First, he could focus his attention on the TV; and second, he could keep it focused for so long. :)

Also, I had a very good thumb wrestling session with Ryan on Sunday. He was cheating big time. But, given his current situation, I guess I'll let it slide. ;)
