Ryan had group therapy this morning. They went over the news, tried to unscramble the words in the newspaper puzzle, then played Buzzwords.
In PT, the therapist had Ryan practice transferring himself from the chair to the mat. He also got on all fours on the mat and practiced weight bearing and balance. After that, she had Ryan walk with a quad cane. He still needed a lot of assistance, but it was just her and him. No other therapists. So, he is needing less assistance every day.
In OT, the therapists used the electronic stimulus machine on Ryan’s left hand to exercise his extensors (the muscles that open his hand). With the e-stim on, they had him practice weight bearing on his left arm.
In speech therapy, Ryan played a computer game that had him choosing between similar or opposite words. He also had to move shapes around the screen following two and three step instructions.
In RT, Ryan played another computer game. He had to put a couple electronic puzzles together. One of a car and another of a boat.
In KT, Ryan rode an exercise bike for about 25-30 minutes. The bike is the kind that had the handles that move back and forth. So, in addition to a lower body workout, he exercised his arms, too.
Ryan had a second OT session this afternoon. The therapists had Ryan take off his shirt and put it back on. He has much more control of his core and can balance himself better than before.
