Ryan had an abbreviated OT session this morning. They worked on finger dexterity on his right hand. The therapist had him picking up coins and putting them in her hand.
Then she worked with his left hand. She had him knock over some items using his fingers or the back of his hand. I was really impressed by his left arm and hand movement.
In his PT session, the therapist had Ryan walking the parallel bars. It’s been a few days since he has walked and the break did wonders. He walked up the parallel bars once. But, he was doing so well on the second and third pass, the therapist had him turn and walk back to the beginning.
The therapist had to do less to hold Ryan up this time. His left knee wasn’t buckling and his left hip wasn’t sticking out like normal. It seemed all the therapist was doing was holding Ryan steady and guiding his legs a bit. He is really improving!
Today, Ryan and I got a 6-hour pass to go out on our own. I gave Ryan as many suggestions as I could come up with for outings. But, all he wanted to do was something “calm.” So, I suggested we go back to my hotel room, lay in bed, watch movies and order a pizza. And, that is exactly what we did.
It was really refreshing to be out of the hospital and in a private room where no nurses, doctors or therapists are going to knock at your door. Neither of us wanted to go back to the hospital.
