Update #39

Another normal day of therapy. :)

Ryan had PT first thing this morning. They worked on getting him standing. His therapist said that he noticed a marked improvement since he had worked with him last. It's been at least four or five days since the last time Ryan worked with that therapist. Ryan was doing a great job of standing up. He was pulling his shoulders back and keeping his back straight and head up without being reminded. Ryan even stayed in a standing position for nearly three minutes.

The therapist also worked with Ryan's left leg in a kicking motion on the platform. He did really well. His left leg is moving better every day.

Ryan's OT/KT session was a challenging one today. Today, they asked him to pick a plastic clothes-pin off the table and clip it to a bar attached to a wooden box. I can see how this exercise would help with his hand/eye coordination. But, with Ryan's double-vision, it is especially challenging. He still managed to clip the clothes-pin on the bar a couple times.

They did some more chest press exercises with Ryan. He is getting stronger every day. He was vocalizing a lot during his exercises. He was really pushing himself hard.

Speech therapy worked with Ryan. They did more tongue exercises. They also did some functionality tests with Ryan. (This is where they give him an object and ask him how he would use it.) He vocalized a lot more on command today. He is getting much closer to saying the word "no."

Vision therapy came in to see Ryan today. She did some tracking exercises with him. She asked him some questions about his double vision. She asked if his double vision was side by side or staggered (one image higher than the other). He indicated that his vision was staggered. She said since the vision is staggered that his eyes are not working in unison and he will probably need alternating patch therapy. This will help build strength in Ryan's eyes so that they will learn to work together.
