Update #28

Today was a very productive day! :)

Ryan went to physical therapy this morning. They held a vibrating stimulus up to his left thigh. This helps the brain identify which muscle needs to move. He was able to do a few kicks with his left leg with the help of the stimulus.

They also helped Ryan stand for about a minute. The therapist lifted him up in what looked like a good "bear hug" position and held him there for a bit. They also worked on neck and head control.

Occupational therapy worked with him for a little after physical therapy was over. He didn't seem to be motivated to do much for them today.

Speech pathology came and worked with Ryan for a little while. They were very impressed by his progress. In fact, they said that he met all of their goals for the week in today's session! They were able to get Ryan to swallow and make an "ah" sound on command multiple times.

They also held up objects like a hammer and a cup and asked him functionality questions. For example, they asked "which one would you drink from?" He correctly identified the appropriate object each time.

They handed him a flashlight at one point and asked him what he would do with it. He rolled the flashlight around in his hand, found the switch and pushed on it.

He is making progress every day! It's just a matter of time before he's back to his crazy self. :)

This is such exciting news!! I am so thankful that his progress is coming along so well--the standing, sounds, responses to questions...this is all such GOOD GOOD news to hear!

Thank you for putting together this site Jenn. I will be checking it religiously everyday so that I can give your phone a break ;).

Thinking of you both and will see you this weekend!
