Update #26

Ryan was visited by speech pathology and physical therapy this morning.

Speech pathology worked with him on trying to form his moans into words. They gave me the homework of trying to get him to say "uh-huh" (like yes) and "no." They also tried to get Ryan to say "hi." When they aren't around and Ryan starts making noise (as he often does), I am going to try working with him on that.

Physical therapy worked with Ryan in bed today. They moved his arms and legs around. They asked him to do some repetitions of bicep curls and leg movements. He did very well! Also, when the nurse needed to reposition him while physical therapy was there, they asked that Ryan try to hold his head up. You could see his neck muscles trying to keep his head up during the move. They were really impressed with his attempt. And, he was able to keep his head steady for the shift in bed.

Ryan is getting very comfortable with using one finger for "yes" and two fingers for "no." So, at this point you can ask him almost any yes or no question and he will respond.
