Update #4

I spoke with Ryan's boss this morning. He confirmed that Ryan is flying home tomorrow. He should arrive in DC around 4 p.m. Eastern time. Due to the lengthy check in process, I may not get to see him until around 6 p.m. And, if his flight is delayed at all, it may be later than that. I will try and email a status update as soon as I can. (Thank God for PDA phones.)

The Navy is taking great care of me. I will be driving my own car up there, but they are providing lodging. They are also flying his parents out and providing lodging for them as well.

Ryan's boss said that Ryan is still unconscious, but confirmed that it is not due to his injury. They are keeping him sedated because he is on a respirator and cannot be awake while on it. His boss is confident that when he arrives in DC they will be able to remove the breathing tube and allow him to wake up.

Ryan's eye is doing a little better. Initially, the pupil was very large and not sensitive to light. But, the doctor said it has decreased in size and is reacting to light. I imagine as a result of his orbital bone being broken, the eyeball was affected. I thought a rock had scraped his eye, but it doesn't sound like that is the case.

An MRI was done, but I don't know the results yet.

He is continuing to have sensitivity to his right side, but not his left. Since his internal cranial pressure (brain pressure) is normal and the doctors say his brain is fine, I imagine this is nerve damage of some sort. Hopefully it can be worked out with physical therapy.

Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers. If you want me to give him any messages when he wakes up, please email them to me. I will read them all to him when he wakes up. I know he will appreciate your concern. :)
