Ryan is sleeping a lot. Since Ryan has been under sedation for most of two weeks, he is catching up on his sleep. That sounds funny, but the way the doctors explained it to me is simple. When you are on sedatives it is not "real" sleep. You are in a drug induced sleep that doesn't allow you to get full REM (deep) sleep. So, even after sedation, a patient needs time to rest and catch up on deep sleep.
Ryan keeps spiking a fever. The doctors think he is fighting an infection and have done cultures. We are waiting for the results to find out where the infection is. He is on antibiotics for most general infections. So, those antibiotics should take care of whatever he has.
They had thought this morning that they would move Ryan down to a lesser intensive care unit today, but since Ryan is fighting an infection, they decided to keep him where he is at.
