Ryan's normal afternoon vision therapy sessions have been officially moved to first thing in the morning before Ryan's group therapy session. The vision therapist worked with Ryan using a laser pointer. This will help with Ryan's tracking, hand/eye coordination and depth of field.
He attended his group therapy session where they discussed news, weather and politics.
In PT, Ryan stood at the end of the parallel bars. The therapist had him shifting his weight to get him used to standing upright on his own. Two therapists assisted Ryan with the tall walker and had him walk down the hall. He is getting more coordinated, but still had a long way to go.
In OT/KT, the therapists had Ryan practice washing his face with a wash rag and brush his own teeth. After he did that, they had him sit on the mat to practice sitting up on his own. He is doing much better sitting up on his own.
The therapists had him get on all fours on the mat and crawl a bit. Putting weight on his arms and shoulders will help Ryan gain strength in his left arm.
The speech therapist finished the memory/awareness evaluation with Ryan today. She also worked with him on some memory games. She would read a short paragraph and then ask him some questions about it. He did really well. Then she watched Ryan eat for a little bit to make sure he was chewing and swallowing okay. She decided that he could go up a level in his diet (meaning he can get foods that are a little less soft).
Recreational therapy played a game called Blurt with Ryan and I today. If you haven't played, the game involves the person naming the word for a definition that is read from a card. It was really cute. Ryan did a great job with his hand/eye coordination and thinking skills.
KT snagged Ryan for an additional therapy session today. They had him work on a seated elliptical machine for 20 minutes. He had Ryan do a few power minutes during that 20 minute session. So, for a minute, Ryan had to peddle really fast, then go back to normal. He did great! I can tell that the strength is really coming back in his legs.
