This afternoon they are going to put the "G" tube in. At the same time, they will remove the feeding tube in his nose. The whole process shouldn't take more than a couple hours. He will recover tonight. (Not much of a recovery is needed because of the simplicity of the surgery.) In 24 hours they will begin feeding though the new tube.
Tomorrow morning, around 10 or 11, Ryan will be transferred to Richmond for rehab. I am very excited for him to start recovering from this. I know it is going to take some time (maybe a long time), but I have no doubts that he will make a full recovery.
Our goals for rehab are:
- Figure out the extend of his brain trauma. Meaning what parts of the brain were affected by his accident and what does that mean to him functionally. (something that will only be discovered in time)
- Work on getting him to speak
- Work on rehabilitating his physical movement and strength
